In a recent article titled “Internet co. reaches out”, posted Friday, February 18th, 2011 in the Nisqually Valley News, reporter Melanie Lockhart writes:

“Big Mountain Internet Solutions is owned by a Yelm couple, but so far the company has made a greater impact outside the community.

That’s why Jon and Erika Clayton said they were excited to host the Yelm Area Chamber of Commerce After Hours event this month — to reach out and become more well-known in the Yelm area.

The business, now in its sixth year of operation, began with a single server in Tacoma, Jon Clayton said. Now it’s a much larger network with clients as far east as New York.

Big Mountain Internet Solutions offers web hosting, spam filtering, secure web folders or file servers, mail hosting, as well as website design, to name a few.

The business is partnered with a satellite internet provider so it can provide net service nationally, Jon Clayton said.

The business is a member of multiple chambers of commerce in the area, including in Yelm and Lacey.

“But we’re a Yelm business,” Jon Clayton said. “We live and breathe Yelm.”

A project in the works includes designing and hosting a website for the City of Yelm. It’s a donation from the company, the Claytons announced at After Hours.

“This is our gift to the city,” Jon Clayton said. “We want to get that up and going.”

During the After Hours event last Thursday, held in the conference room at the Prairie Hotel in Yelm, Big Mountain Internet Solutions held a raffle for a printer as incentive for locals to show up and learn about the company.

About 20 people attended.

Jon Clayton is no stranger to the community. Until January 2010, he was a familiar face with FairPoint Communications. He said that’s how a lot of people know him.

With Big Mountain Internet Solutions is off the ground, he said they’re excited for the future growth of the business.

“Now that the dust is starting the settle on what we’re doing,” Jon Clayton said.

“Let’s see what 2011 will bring.””
